KNOW YOUR PLAN CHOICES

As a Medicare beneficiary, you want to be an informed consumer. But the Medicare program can be complex and confusing. My goal is to help you simplify it, review your options and help you confidently choose the plan that will suit your needs and budget.

 MEDICARE BASICS

Medicare is a federal government program which provides health coverage to eligible beneficiaries. You are able to join if you:

  • Are age 65 or older and eligible for Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits.
  • Are age 65 or older and married to someone eligible for Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits.
  • Are under age 65 but qualify on the basis of disability or other special situations.
  • Are any age, but have end-stage renal disease (kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant).

ORIGINAL MEDICARE & ADDITIONAL INSURANCE

I can help you understand your plan choices..

  • Original Medicare - includes Part A (Hospital) and Part B (Professional Services). There can be premiums, deductibles and coinsurance with Original Medicare so one option is to purchase a Medigap or Medicare Supplement plan to help fill in the gaps. Medicare Supplement plans allow you to go to any provider that accepts Medicare.  I can help you choose a Medicare Supplement policy from private insurance companies to find the right plan. You will also need to purchase a separate Part D prescription drug plan to avoid the late enrollment penalty, unless you have other creditable prescription coverage. I can help with that too.
  • Medicare Advantage Plans -  also known as Part C, these plans are offered by private insurance companies. They are different than Medicare Supplement plans. These types of plans typically come in various forms such as HMOs and PPOs. Medicare Advantage Plans include all of the benefits of Original Medicare, Part A and B benefits. They may also include Part D prescription drug coverage.  Additional coverage such as hearing, vision, dental services and possibly gym memberships may be included. These plans vary by area, you must live and reside in the plan service area. I can let you know what your choices are.  You will also need to have original Medicare,  Parts A and B. Medicare Advantage plans have a year to year contract with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, so plans can change and leave an area.
